Four characteristics distinguish distance learning from traditional learning:

First,  distance learning is by definition carried out through institutions; it is not self-study or a nonacademic learning environment. Crossroads Academy offers a traditional classroom-based setting for instruction employing today's technological advances.  All coursework is eligible for accreditation by the same agencies as those schools employing more traditional methods of education.

Second, although geographic separation of the student and teacher is inherent in distance learning, Crossroads Academy utilizes Academic Coaches on-site to provide oversight of the classroom, answer questions and provide additional learning opportunities outside the textbook.

Third, Crossroads Academy provides the telecommunications equipment necessary to connect our students with their teachers.  This is done predominantly through the use of e-mail and Zoom, although some assignments are presented over the phone.

Finally, distance learning , like a traditional classroom, establishes a learning group composed of students, an Academic Coach, and instructional resources—i.e., the books, audio, video, and graphic displays that allow the student to access the content of instruction.

How do we expect young people to dream if they don’t know what they can dream about? Opportunities for career exploration give young people broader exposure to the working world they will one day enter. It helps them “connect the dots” between school and career in ways that keep them motivated to graduate with the skills they will need for the future.

To help students find the right path, Crossroads Academy offers:

  • career focused electives
  • student driven field trips

SEMESTER BASED COURSES;

in the traditional school setting, students earn 1 credit for completion of a 1-year class. Because Crossroads Academy allows students to work at their own pace, students earn a half credit for each semester completed.  This allows part-time students the opportunity to take classes with the goal of  "getting ahead", "improving a grade", or "recovering credits".

" There is more of a challenge doing this program.  I have the opportunity to do college classes."

"It's made an impact on my life because they show an interest in our opinions and take them into consideration.  The instructors show that they care."

"I'm more on my own and everything I do is at my pace.  It's teaching me responsibility and time managing skills.  All in all, showing me a slice of the real world."
